Johnstown residents who have noticed the bright-orange building taking shape along Thompson Parkway will soon have another dining option near the Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 34 corridor.
Smalls Sliders, a growing restaurant chain specializing in cheeseburger sliders, is preparing to open at 4781 Thompson Parkway. The restaurant will become the company’s second Colorado location, following its entry into the state with a restaurant in Northglenn.
Smalls Sliders held what the company calls a “Can Drop” at the Johnstown property June 23. The event marked the arrival and placement of the restaurant’s prefabricated building, which the company refers to as a “Can” because of its compact shape and distinctive orange exterior, which they call Smorange™. Smalls Sliders has become one of the fastest-growing emerging restaurant concepts in the country.
The Johnstown restaurant will be operated by Mountain Sliders and franchise partners Nick and Alix Ralls. The group is pursuing a broader expansion in Colorado, including another planned location in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch area.
The restaurant’s menu is centered on made-to-order cheeseburger sliders served with cheese, pickles and the company’s signature “Smauce” on toasted buns. Other offerings include seasoned waffle fries, loaded fries, queso and hand-spun milkshakes. (Smalls Sliders)

Smalls Sliders restaurants are considerably smaller than traditional fast-food buildings. The approximately 750-square-foot format is designed primarily for drive-thru and takeout service, allowing the company to operate with a focused menu and compact footprint.
The new restaurant will add to the continued growth of the Thompson Parkway commercial corridor, where new dining, retail and service businesses have expanded alongside residential development in Johnstown and neighboring communities.
Construction remains underway, and Smalls Sliders has not publicly released its anticipated opening date or operating hours. Johnstown Republic will provide an update when additional opening information becomes available.
