Free Back-to-School Vaccine Clinics Open for Weld RE-5J Families

Free back-to-school vaccination clinics are now available across Weld County as families prepare for the 2026–27 school year.

The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment is offering the clinics from July 28 through Aug. 6, and any Weld County student may attend any participating location. Weld RE-5J is directing Johnstown and Milliken families to clinic sites in communities including Grover, Fort Lupton, Windsor and Greeley. Families with questions can contact the Weld County Immunization Program at 970-400-2415. Clinic information is available through the Weld RE-5J School District website.

The clinics arrive as Colorado changes the timing of its Tdap requirement for students entering middle school. Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, students must have one dose of the Tdap vaccine before their first day of seventh grade unless the school has documentation of a valid exemption. Tdap protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment provides the full school immunization requirements online.

Students who already received a qualifying Tdap dose generally do not need an additional dose solely because of the grade-level change. Families should review their child’s immunization record or contact their school or health care provider if they are unsure whether the requirement has been met.

Colorado law requires students attending public, private and parochial schools to receive certain vaccines unless an exemption is filed. The state maintains separate information for medical and nonmedical exemptions, and Weld RE-5J is directing families seeking exemption details to the CDPHE school-vaccine exemption page.

The vaccine clinics are part of a broader back-to-school push in Weld RE-5J. The district’s Annual Family Check-In is open for the 2026–27 year, allowing parents and guardians to update emergency contacts, upload required documents and add new students through Infinite Campus. Only one parent or guardian needs to complete the process for each student.

Weld RE-5J will also hold its OuR Launch 2026 back-to-school kickoff from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Milliken Intermediate School, 266 S. Irene Ave. The free community event will include school supplies, backpacks, books, food, giveaways and services for students in preschool through 12th grade while supplies last. Sports physicals will be available for $55, and the Weld Food Bank mobile food truck is expected to serve up to 200 families.

Classes for Weld RE-5J students in grades 1 through 12 begin Aug. 17. Kindergarten begins Aug. 19.

Families should confirm clinic dates, hours and locations before traveling because schedules may change. The latest district information is available through the Weld RE-5J website.
