Highway 60 closed in Johnstown after single-vehicle crash downs power lines

JOHNSTOWN, Colo. — A single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning brought power lines down across Highway 60 in Johnstown, closing a section of the highway and sending one person to an area hospital.

Front Range Fire Rescue said crews responded at approximately 8:06 a.m. Sept. 29 to reports of a crash near Highway 60 and South Fremont Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found power lines crossing the roadway, according to an update from the department.

One patient was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital, Front Range Fire Rescue said. The department did not provide information about the patient’s condition.

The crash initially prompted the closure of Highway 60 between South Harding Avenue and South Denver Avenue. In a subsequent update, Front Range Fire Rescue said the closure would extend between Parish Avenue and Telep Avenue for two or more hours while repairs were made to the damaged power lines.

Traffic was being detoured around the area, and officials asked motorists to avoid the scene while emergency and utility crews worked.

UCHealth EMS, the Johnstown Police Department and Town of Johnstown Public Works assisted Front Range Fire Rescue with the response.

No additional information about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway has been released.

Johnstown Republic will update this story if additional information is released by authorities.
