Boondocks is Officially One Step Closer to Johnstown

After years of discussion and multiple proposals, the Town of Johnstown and Boondocks signed an economic incentive agreement on Monday, signaling that the long-awaited entertainment center is now moving closer to becoming a reality. The planned facility would be built at 5375 Ronald Reagan Boulevard, near Interstate 25 and Highway 34.

The agreement requires Boondocks to complete construction and open to the public by June 30, 2027. The company must also employ at least 120 people at the facility by March 31, 2028.

In exchange, the Town agreed to rebate 50 percent of the project’s building permit, building review, and electrical fees after the facility is completed and operating. The agreement does not include impact fees, water tap fees, sewer tap fees, or other Town-imposed fees.

The agreement adds another major milestone to a project that has generated excitement among residents for years. Boondocks, known for attractions such as go-karts, bowling, arcade games, laser tag, miniature golf, and food, has long been discussed as a potential addition to Johnstown’s growing commercial corridor.

Beyond the economic incentives, Boondocks also agreed to provide additional benefits to the Town. Beginning in December 2027, the company will make its event space available to the Town one day each year for five years. Boondocks also agreed to work with the Town on any future public improvement district or fee that may be created to support roads, infrastructure, or other improvements around the project site.

The agreement includes protections for the Town as well. If Boondocks fails to meet its commitments for employment or use of the event space, the company would be required to repay the rebated fees, along with interest.

While construction has not yet begun, Monday’s agreement is the strongest sign yet that Boondocks is no longer just a concept for Johnstown — it is a project with deadlines, commitments, and a formal agreement in place.
