Freeze Warning Issued for Johnstown Friday Night Into Saturday Morning

Residents in Johnstown should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures Friday night, as a Freeze Warning has been issued for the area from 8:00 p.m. Friday through 8:00 a.m. Saturday.

After enjoying spring-like weather this week, temperatures are expected to fall rapidly Friday evening, with overnight lows dropping into the low 20s. Forecasts currently show temperatures near 22 degrees by early Saturday morning, cold enough to damage plants, freeze exposed pipes, and create hazardous conditions for anyone who has already begun spring yardwork.

According to the National Weather Service, the sudden temperature drop may follow light rain or snow showers earlier in the day Friday, making conditions feel even colder overnight.

Gardeners and homeowners are encouraged to take precautions Friday afternoon before temperatures begin to fall. Sensitive plants and flowers should be covered or brought indoors if possible. Outdoor hoses should be disconnected and drained, and any exposed sprinkler lines or irrigation equipment should be protected to prevent damage.

For those who have already turned on their sprinkler systems for the season, this freeze could pose a risk to backflow preventers, exposed valves, and above-ground piping. Residents may want to shut off outdoor irrigation systems and drain any exposed lines before Friday evening.

Pet owners are also encouraged to bring pets indoors overnight, especially smaller animals or those that typically remain outside.

The cold snap is expected to be brief, with temperatures warming back into the 50s and 60s later this weekend. However, this latest reminder of Colorado’s unpredictable spring weather serves as a warning not to put away winter precautions just yet.
